An assessment can be referred to as testing or an evaluation. The goal is to gain diagnostic clarity. They may include standardized testing, measures, interviews, and review of records. Assessments can range in length, with some occurring in one session and others requiring multiple visits.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can include symptoms of deficits in social communication and interaction as well as restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests.
Testing for ASD can include parent, teacher, and self-report questionnaires as well as cognitive and developmental testing. The provider may also engage in an observation of the child at school.
Autism evaluations at Flora Psychology include the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), which is the gold standard for assessing autism. Autism evaluation may span 2 to 5 sessions, depending on individual needs. Reports are provided during a feedback session with the provider.
Dr. Magnuson provides all evaluations and completes evaluations in approximately 2 weeks from the completion of the measures. Autism evaluations are provided to children ages 2 to 7 years old.
